Baby & two children injured and a motorcyclist in ‘serious condition’ following crash with motorhome

A BABY and two children have been injured and a motorcyclist remains in a “serious condition” in hospital following a horror crash with motorhome in the Highlands.

Emergency services[1] raced to the A837 at Skiag Bridge, south-east of Lochinver at around 11.10am on Friday.

A 37-year-old man was riding a black and green Kawasaki motorbike when it collided with a Fiat[2] Ducato camper van containing a male driver and five passengers including three children.

The motorcyclist was taken to hospital[3] for treatment.

The 62-year-old male driver and passengers within the motorhome, three females, aged one, 27 and 64, and two boys, aged three and seven, were also taken to hospital for treatment.

Sergeant Calum MacAulay, of the Dingwall road policing unit said: “Our inquiries are ongoing and I would ask anyone who witnessed what happened or who saw either vehicle on the road prior to the crash to get in touch.

Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting incident number 1066 of August 9.

It comes as Skye locals slammed tourists for causing “total carnage”[5] by grid-locking a lifeline single track road used by emergency services.

One frustrated resident took to social media[6] to share an image of multiple vehicles backed up along the island’s 7-mile winding Glenbrittle Road after some drove onto the soft verge and got stuck.

The route – which passes tourist hotspots like the Fairy Pools towards Glen Brittle Beach[7] – is also used by hill-walkers who wish to take on the island’s magnificent Black Cullin mountains.

It is an important route used by mountain rescue[8] who need quick access to the 12 most-challenging munros.

But the rural single track that uses passing places to facilitate two-way traffic[9] was brought to a stand-still for around two hours on Thursday afternoon after a camper-van became stuck on the soft grass ledge.
