Gardai and emergency services race to scene of major motorway four-vehicle M18 smash

EMERGENCY services attended the scene of a four-vehicle road traffic collision on the M18 motorway in Co Clare today.

The incident took place near Junction 11 on the M18 motorway this morning.

It was the second traffic road collision[1] to occur on the same route this morning.

The first crash occurred in the southbound lane between Junction 9 Shannon and Junction 10 Newmarket-on-Fergus shortly after 7:30am.

Gardai[2] and emergency services[3], along with Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Shannon and Ennis Fire Service, attended the scene.

It is believed that two cars were involved in the incident which was cleared at around 8.50am.

“Following the collision, three drivers have been conveyed to University Hospital Limerick[5] with injuries which are believed to be non-life threatening at this time.

“The road is now reopened. Investigation is ongoing.”

BELFAST CRASH

Meanwhile, a pedestrian in her 70s has been killed[6] following a horror collision in Belfast.

The incident occurred on Saturday, November 9 at around 6.50pm.

The PSNI shared that they received a report that “two pedestrians had been struck by a vehicle” in the Hannahstown Hill[7] area.

Inspector Cherith Adair from the Collision Investigation Unit said in a statement: “Officers attended, alongside our colleagues from partner emergency services and established that the vehicle had been involved in a collision with the pedestrians and a second vehicle.

“Sadly, one of the pedestrians, a female in her 70’s, later died from her injuries in hospital.

“The second female pedestrian received treatment for injuries which are not believed to be life threatening, while the vehicle drivers were uninjured.

“Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the circumstances of the collision and we are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or to anyone who may have captured dash-cam or other footage of the vehicles involved – a silver Volkswagen Tiguan and a grey Ford Kuga, to contact detectives on 101 quoting reference 1355 of 09/11/24, or submit information online at http://www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/.”
