Emergency services swoop near Glasgow hospital as cops lock down scene

A PEDESTRIAN has been hit by a bus near a hospital in Glasgow, sparking a major emergency response.

Mercy crews raced to Castle Street, near Glasgow[1] Royal Infirmary, this afternoon.

Police[2] have locked down the area after the collision.

Castle Street is currently closed in both directions, from Glebe Street to Warnock Street.

The busy M8 has also been impacted, with the Junction 15 eastbound slip road also closed.

Drivers are currently being diverted onto Alexandra Parade.

Photos from the scene show a large section of the road taped off next to the hospital.

Around half a dozen officers on foot are seen guarding the area around the blue tape.

A large double-decker bus also sits inside the cordon with a police van parked just behind it.

Numerous other police vehicles are also parked on a neighbouring road that is accessed by the motorway slip-off.

A statement from Police Scotland read: “We are in attendance on Castle Street, near Glasgow Royal Infirmary, following a collision involving a bus and a pedestrian.

“Castle Street is closed in both directions, from Glebe Street to Warnock Street.

“The M8 J15 eastbound slip road is also impacted with traffic is being diverted onto Alexandra Parade.

“Please avoid the area and use an alternative route.”

The Scottish Ambulance Service has been contacted for comment.
