Pedestrian hit by bus as police race to Scots road & seal off area

A PEDESTRIAN has been hit by a bus on a busy Ayrshire street prompting police to lock down the area.

Emergency crews raced to the scene on Glasgow Road in Kilmarnock[1] this afternoon.

The alarm was raised at around 1pm after officers received reports of a person being struck by an oncoming bus.

The area is usually busy with vehicles with it being close to the A77 road and the M77 motorway[2].

Cops[3] have sealed off a section of the road, including the slip road to the A77 northbound.

And they are urging the public to avoid the area and use an alternative route if possible.

Drivers[4] currently looking to access the A77 and M77 are being diverted through a road to Kilmaurs.

Vehicles on the road are also being asked to turn back.

Photos from the area show a stagecoach X76 double-decker service, which was heading towards Glasgow, sitting stationary on the side of the road.

A number of police[5] vehicles are also on the busy road parked a short distance behind the bus.

At the scene, a small teenager’s bike is seen propped up against a lamppost as collision[6] experts probe the scene. 

It is condition of the pedestrian who was struck by the bus is currently unclear.

Police Scotland[7] Ayrshire shares a statement on social media[8] warning locals and drivers of the incident.

It read: “Emergency services[9] are in attendance following a crash involving a bus and a pedestrian on Glasgow Road, Kilmarnock.

“Glasgow Road is currently closed at its junction with the slip road to the A77 northbound.

“The public are asked to avoid the area.”

Woman, 24, killed in horror crash as two others rushed to hospital

A YOUNG woman has died following a horror two-car crash during rush hour.

The fatal smash happened on the B7038 Ayr Road in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire[1], this morning.

It involved a Vauxhall[2] Corsa and an Audi[3] Q2.

Emergency services rushed to the busy route around 9.35am after the alarm was raised.

But a 24-year-old woman who was driving the Corsa could not be saved and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Formal identification is still to take place but her family has been informed.

The road was closed for six-and-a-half hours as police[5] carried out enquiries.

Cops are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Police Sergeant Martin Cunningham of the road policing unit said: “Our inquiries are continuing to understand the full circumstances of what happened. Sadly, this young woman lost her life, and our thoughts are with her family and friends.

“I would ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or who may have dash-cam footage, and has not yet spoken to or provided this information to officers, to contact us as soon as possible.

“The road was closed for around six and half hours. I want to thank members of the public for their patience while we investigated this serious collision.”
