Woman, 52, dies in horror crash with lorry and car as Scots road remains locked down

WOMAN has died and a man is in hospital following a horror crash involving a lorry.

Emergency services[1] rushed to the scene on the A947 Aberdeen to Banff road, just north of Oldmeldrum, Aberdeenshire[2], earlier this morning[3].

The collision[4] involved a red Fiat[5] 500 car[6] and a white Scania HGV lorry at around 8am.

The driver of the Fiat, a 52-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her next of kin have been informed.

The 60-year-old male driver of the lorry was taken to Aberdeen Royal[7] Infirmary.

Police[8] Scotland are appealing for witnesses who may have additional information or dash-cam footage of the incident.

They also extended their gratitude to members of the public who assisted at the scene and expressed sympathy for the families[9] affected by the tragic event.

Sergeant Sarah Ritchie of the North East Road Policing Unit said “Our thoughts are with the families of those involved and I would like to thank members of the public who stopped and assisted at the scene.

“Our enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing, however, I am appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time who may have seen the crash or the two vehicles prior to the incident to get in touch.
