A MOTORCYCLIST who died in a horror crash on a rural Scots road has been named.

Peter[1] Davies, of Wick, lost his life following the smash[2] with a transit van on the A882.

Emergency crews[3] raced to the scene in the Scottish Highlands[4] at around on 7.50pm last Wednesday evening.

The fatal smash happened near Wick, in Caithness, at around 7.50pm.

The collision[5] involved a Ducati motorbike and a Ford [6]Transit van.

Tragically the 61-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police [7]locked down the road for over eight hours to allow collision investigators to conduct inquiries at the scene.

It was reopened again at around 4.20am on Thursday, August 18.

Officers paid tribute to Mr Davies and his family[8] as they launched an appeal[9] for information into the fatal incident.

And they are now appealing for anyone with dashcam footage about the crash to come forward.

Police[10] sergeant Calum Macaulay from the Highland and Islands Road Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts remain[11] with Mr Davies’ family and friends at this difficult time.

“Enquiries are ongoing into the full circumstances of the crash and we are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident and has yet to speak to officers, to please get in touch.

“We would also still like to see any dashcam[12] footage you may have from the area around the time of the collision.”

Motorcyclist dies at scene of horror crash with van on Scots road

A BIKER has tragically died after a horror crash with a van on a major Scots road.

The fatal smash happened near Wick, in Caithness, at around 7.50pm.

The collision involved a Ducati motorbike and a Ford[3] Transit van.

Tragically, the rider of the motorbike, a 61-year-old man, died as a result of the crash.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers have also launched a probe into the incident and have said that enquiries are ongoing.

And they are now appealing for anyone with information about the crash to come forward.

They are urging anyone who may have seen something, or anyone who may know something, to speak with cops.

Cops are particularly keen to speak with anyone who may have dashcam footage of the area from the time of the crash.

“I would ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash, assisted at the scene or who may have dash-cam footage, and has not yet spoken to or provided this information to officers, to contact us as soon as possible.

“The road re-opened at around 4.20am on Wednesday 14 August.
