Forklift trucker died in Flintshire A55 crash on way home from work
An inquest has opened into the death of the Flintshire man who was killed in a crash on the A55 last week. Jon Matthew Kennedy, of Melbourne Road in Buckley[1], was sadly pronounced dead beside the westbound carriageway near Broughton[2] on Monday, September 25.
The forklift truck driver was driving home after a night shift when the collision occurred at around 6:30am[3]. At an inquest held at Ruthin[4] County Hall today, senior coroner for North Wales east and central, John Gittins, heard that Mr Kennedy’s white BMW 118 left the carriageway and collided with a road sign and a tree.
The 46-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics at 7:05am. A provisional cause of death of multiple crush injuries was provided following a post mortem by Dr Muhammad Aslam.
The inquest was adjourned to a future date pending further investigation. In a statement issued last week, a North Wales Police[7] spokesperson said: “Officers are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision near Broughton in Flintshire[8] yesterday morning (Monday, September 25).
“Shortly before 6.30am North Wales Police received a number of 999 calls reporting a vehicle – a white coloured BMW 118 – was in a ditch just off the A55[9] prior to junction 36 of the westbound carriageway. The emergency services attended, but sadly, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.”
Sergeant Emlyn Hughes, of the Roads Crime Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with Mr Kennedy’s family and friends at this difficult time. We are urging anybody who may have been travelling along the A55[10] around the time of the collision, or anyone who may have dash cam footage to contact us.
“I’d like to thank all those who have contacted us so far. I’d also like to thank the motoring public for their patience whilst the road was closed.”
