Live A606 updates as lorry overturns at Tollerton bridge and police block off road

The A606 at Tollerton is closed because of a lorry which overturned after striking a bridge. Traffic is heavy[1] on Melton Road in the South Nottinghamshire Village, which leads off the A52[2] going south past Edwalton. Pictures from witnesses as the scene show a huge HGV on its side underneath the railway bridge. Ambulance services[3] and police are at the scene, with a police van blocking traffic from passing on one side. The bridge is painted with large yellow and black hazard lines due to its low height.

But it’s not the first time that a tall vehicle has hit the low overhang. Only earlier this year it was reported on one day in April that traffic was slow after a lorry had hit the bridge. It happened in November and December 2018 too.[4][5]

It is unclear yet whether the driver was injured in the incident.

Nottinghamshire Police[6] has been contacted for comment.
