Man arrested and drugs and weapon seized after car crash near Mansfield

Officers on patrol on the A617 near Mansfield spotted a car travelling at high speed around 1.50am on Monday, April 15.

They followed the car at a safe distance before the vehicle collided with the central reservation and ended up on the opposite side of the carriageway.

A suspect was seen running away from the scene and into nearby gardens. He was located by officers a short time later underneath a van.

During searches, officers found cannabis, a baseball bat, a large amount of cash and multiple mobile phones.

The suspect also tested positive for cannabis following a roadside drugs wipe.

A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a Class B drug, dangerous driving, driving without a licence or insurance, drug-driving and possession of an offensive weapon.

Inspector Declan Bourne, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “The response officers on duty should be commended for their determination to track down this suspect.

“They have then carried out exemplary searches of both the suspect and vehicle, which have allowed us to take drugs and an offensive weapon off the streets.

“It was another good example of our police teams working closely together to achieve a positive result.”

Rapid response to robbery leads to quadruple arrest in Mansfield

Four robbery suspects were tracked down and detained within 45 minutes of police being called.

Officers attended a property in George Street[2], Mansfield, following reports a robbery had just taken place.

A group of men reportedly entered the address and began rifling through drawers.

When they were confronted by a man and woman inside, the group responded by punching both in the face.

The group also snatched the man’s phone before leaving the property, getting into a car, and driving in the direction of Ladybrook Lane[3].

Officers attended the address around 12.25pm on Tuesday January 9 where they were provided with the getaway car’s details.

A car matching this description was then tracked down and stopped by response and operational support officers in Arnold, less than 45 minutes later.

Four men, aged 26, 27, 30 and 31, were found inside the vehicle and were all subsequently arrested on suspicion of robbery.

Detective Constable Robert McGhee, of Nottinghamshire Police[5], said: “This must’ve been a very scary experience for the man and the woman, who were both shaken up after sustaining minor injuries..

“This case provided a great example of this urgency, with the officers who responded to this incident managing to track down a car full of suspects within 45 minutes of the call.

“While we’ve arrested four suspects in connection with this, our inquiries are still very much ongoing, so we’d ask anyone with any information that could assist us to contact us straight away.”
