Tributes to ‘gentle and kind’ Swindon dad killed in scooter crash

On Friday, April 3 Nick Reeves was travelling to Scarborough riding on the A1 near Nottingham on his Lambretta motor scooter when the crash happened. Despite the best efforts of emergency services the 57-year-old died at the scene. Nick, a member of the Lambretta Club of Great Britain and the Mercenaries, would often travel across the UK and Europe.
Twin daughters, Chloe and Sophie Reeves, both 24, have launched a fundraiser in his name to help cover funeral costs. Nick was married to their mother, Tina Reeves, although since separated they remained good friends. Paying tribute to her dad Chloe said: "Dad was the most supportive, kind person, very gentle, but also such a prankster.
"He was the rock of our lives in a way that I've not seen anyone else have with their dad. "He was everything to us and helped us through everything- university, personal problems - everything." She said he is "widely loved by everyone" and the sisters are "expecting hundreds of people" to attend his funeral.
Chloe added: "The love and support from everyone has just been absolutely amazing, and hearing how much everyone loves dad. "He's the sort of person you would go to for any problem - everyone would do it. He was always going out of his way to help people, even strangers."

"Since he was young, he had just been in love with Lambrettas - that's what he did for work and for fun."
Sophie continued: "I lived at home with dad for years and years. He used to go away to scooter rallies almost every weekend in the summer. "He went away so much it hasn't really hit us yet - we are just sort of waiting for him to come back."

Chloe continued: "You are just waiting to hear his van pull on the driveway, his key in the door and him come in. "It's almost like you are imagining it's happened rather than it's actually happened. "Because we are so young, and it is such an unexpected loss, we weren't prepared in an way for this, and neither was dad.
"We weren't financially ready for this, which is why we set it [fundraiser] up. We had a lot of people asking how they could help us, and we thought this was probably the best way. "Everyone has been so generous and lovely.
It is so touching how many people have donated, and all the comments on Facebook saying how much they love dad and how much they'll miss him." At the time of the accident a spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Police: "A motorcyclist has died following a collision with a van on the A1. "Emergency services were called to the scene at South Muskham at around 9pm on Friday (3 April).
"The motorcyclist, a 57-year-old man, died at the scene despite the best efforts of first responders. "The driver of the van stopped at the scene and has given an account to officers. "Police closed the road in both directions overnight while investigations took place but it fully reopened at 10:40am on Saturday (4 April)."
Investigations are ongoing.
Nick's funeral will take place on Thursday, May 14 at Kingsdown Crematorium, 1:30pm.
