A48 warning as police stationed at sticky road closure near Tidenham
A major road linking England and Wales remains shut today (Monday, December 18) three days after a lorry carrying a sticky substance crashed into a railway bridge. Initial reports that the A48 at Tidenham[1] between Lydney and Chepstow had reopened proved incorrect. And in a firm message to motorists, Gloucestershire County Council[2] has said that police officers are on site.
They stressed the road closure is and will remain in place. Drivers have also been told not to try to drive[3] through the closure. The stickly glucose-like substance has proved difficult to clear.
The incident happened on Friday and forced the closure of the road throughout the weekend and into the Monday rush-hour. Traffic has been diverting through local lanes which has put pressure on the tight and narrow roads. In its latest update, Gloucestershire highways team said on X, formerly twitter: “A48 at Tidenham, Police on site.
Road closure will be remaining in place.
Please do not attempt to access during this closure.”
