Ilkeston Market Place live updates as serious collision shuts road, large police presence in area

A large police cordon was set up after a number of people were struck by a van in Market Place in Ilkeston. Emergency services were called to the Market Place[1] just before 2.10am on Saturday, December 16. One man suffered serious injuries and died at the scene, and two other people were treated for injuries, which are not thought to be serious, at hospital.

One man, believed to be the driver of the van, has been arrested on suspicion of murder.[2] He was taken into police[3] custody. Police said Market Place would be closed for some time while officers carry out inquiries.

A large section of the Market Place was cordoned off. There was no access to the Market Place between the King's Head and Sir John Warren pubs. A spokesperson for Derbyshire police said: "Market Place will continue to be closed for some time while officers carry out enquiries, and we would like to hear from any witnesses.

"At this time, we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident, and do not believe it is terrorism-related."
