Nottinghamshire Police issue appeal for witnesses after man arrested over stabbing in Newark

Detectives are trying to trace potential key witnesses after arresting a suspect over a stabbing. An investigation is ongoing after a man is believed to have been attacked in a communal area between blocks of flats on Lover’s Lane, Newark. The victim, who is aged in his 30s, arrived at Newark Police Station shortly after 10pm on Thursday (December 7) saying he had been stabbed.

Officers provided first aid before paramedics arrived.

He was taken to hospital to undergo surgery after suffering multiple wounds to his body — his injuries are not currently believed to be life-threatening.

Following inquiries, officers detained a suspect around half-an-hour later. A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. As part of their ongoing investigation, detectives are appealing for anyone who was in the area and who may have information to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Matt Scott, said:”We believe there were people in the street around the time of this serious offence who may have witnessed the incident.

“If you were in that area around that time and think you may have seen something relevant, please get in touch with us as soon as possible.

“You may be able to provide us with crucial information as we continue to build a clearer picture of what happened.”
