Nottinghamshire weather warning as Met Office predicts travel disruption

A loss of power and transport disruption[1] are both possible amid a Met Office weather warning for strong winds across Nottinghamshire. The meteorological agency has issued a yellow weather warning covering much of the Midlands, affecting Saturday (December 9). The warning is in place from 9am until 11.45pm and the Met Office says delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport services are likely.

Describing the other potential consequences of the weather[2], the Met Office says: “Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer. Have you already started your Christmas shopping? Let us know here.[3]

“Some short term loss of power and other services is possible. It’s possible that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves. Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely.”

In its overall forecast for the East Midlands on Saturday, the Met Office says: “Persistent and locally heavy rain spreading erratically north across the region through the morning to give a wet day.

Winds very variable but likely becoming increasingly strong into the evening.”
