Police release update after man left critically injured in Nottingham skate park attack

An 18-year-old man has been arrested after a man was attacked near a Nottingham skate park, leaving him with a life-threatening injury. Police[1] were called to the Sussex Street Skate Park walkway underneath the tram tracks near the Nottingham College Canal Street campus after the assault, which happened at around 6.50pm on Tuesday, December 5. Nottinghamshire Police said an 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm in connection with the incident. They said the 24-year-old victim remains at the Queen’s Medical Centre[2] with life-threatening head injuries.

Police believe the victim was attacked after an alleged altercation with a group of young males and females. The group then allegedly ran from the scene in the direction of High Pavement and Cliff Road, towards the Lace Market. Join us on WhatsApp to get the latest news straight to your phone[3]

A cordon was in place at the scene on Wednesday morning (December 6), which police said would remain for the next 24 hours as forensic enquiries continue. Detective Inspector Clare Gibson, who is leading the investigation, appealed for members of the group to come forward. “A large team of officers are working extremely hard to ensure those responsible are brought to justice,” she said. “An 18-year-old man remains in police custody and we are working hard to identify all other persons involved.

“If you were with that group last night then we want to hear from you immediately. I would urge anyone with information about this attack to please come forward and help us with our investigation.” Chief Inspector Karl Thomas, who heads up neighbourhood policing in the city, said the public should expect to see an increased police presence in the area, adding: “We know this incident would have been alarming for the many people coming into the city for work and to shop this morning.

I want to reassure the public we are doing everything possible to ensure we catch those responsible.

“There is absolutely no place for violence in our city centre[4].

A cordon will be in place for some time while detectives carry out a thorough investigation, but the cordon will not affect access to Nottingham College or cause any problems for motorists.”
