The areas of Nottinghamshire with the worst drivers in the county shown in new interactive map
The New Basford and Forest Fields postcode area is home to the worst drivers in Nottinghamshire, with residents there more likely to have six points on their licence than anywhere else in the region. According to government data released at the beginning of this month, 550 licence holders living in the NG7 postcode have six or more points on their licence. This equals to one in 30 drivers in the area – the largest proportion of any postcode district in Nottinghamshire.
Aspley, Wollaton[1], Whitemoor, and other areas in NG8, came in second, with 914 drivers with six or more points on their licence – the equivalent of one in 39. Bestwood[2], Bulwell[3], and Old Basford in NG6 have a ratio of one in 40 drivers with six or more points on their licence, while Carlton[4], St Ann’s[5] and Mapperley[6] in NG3 have one in 47. Residents in Forest Fields have expressed mixed opinions regarding the statistics.
Do you agree with the council’s plans to increase traffic enforcement?[7] Stacy Taylor, 30, says that she has been involved in ‘a few’ near misses in the Forest Fields area. She said: “It’s bad.
Drivers don’t seem to pay attention to what they’re doing. “But the roads are bad as well. It’s potholes galore around here and you also never know if they’re going to drive upon the pavement either.
I’ve been involved in a few near misses, including with my daughter’s in the car. “It’s all mostly because drivers just don’t pay attention.” Sava Noor, 45, echoed Tracy’s opinion, saying the bad traffic in the area has determined her to drive less.

She said: “It’s really bad to be honest. That’s why I’m not driving sometimes, the traffic is really bad.
People could use public transport more but there’s also the problem with families having multiple cars and using all of them at the same time and they crowd the roads even more.” Other residents have said that driving around the Forest Fields and New Basford area isn’t as bad as other parts of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, such as Bulwell. Sam Crawford, 57, said: “It looks like everyone drives normally to me.
“I come down here from Bulwell often and I don’t think it’s as bad. I guess it can be a bit bad at night-time when the young ones are out but I’ve never had any problems.”

Another resident, Marie Scott, 41, said the only problem in the area is the traffic. She said: “It’s just mega busy all the time and that’s what usually leads to collisions but other than that, I’d say it’s similar to any other parts in the city.”
Across the UK, Bradford was crowned as the place with the worst drivers, with 11,278 drivers out of almost 350,00 having six or more points on their licence.
