A Nottingham university has named and paid tribute to a 31-year-old postgraduate student who died following a crash on A60 Huntingdon Street.
Last Wednesday (December 13), Oshada Jayasundera was hit by a vehicle which was being followed by police just after 3am. He was treated by paramedics but died at the scene. A Nottingham Trent University spokesperson said: “We are saddened to hear about the death of NTU postgraduate student Oshada Jayasundera and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.
“Oshada was an engaged and committed student who was well respected by his peers and tutors. “He was keen to support others across the postgraduate community and his compassion, concern and kindness shone through. “We know that he will be missed by those who knew him and we are offering support to all students and staff who have been affected.”
After the incident, Joshua Gregory, 27, of Westfield Road in Kirkby-in-Ashfield, was arrested and charged with four offences, which include causing death by dangerous driving, causing death by driving while uninsured, failure to stop after a road accident and failure to provide a specimen for analysis. The incident resulted in part of A60 Huntingdon Street and Glasshouse Street being shut for most of that day. In line with standard procedure, Nottinghamshire Police referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
