Alton Towers teases a first look at rollercoaster that ‘will be worth the wait’

Alton Towers has offered thrillseekers a first look at the terrifying new Nemesis monster as one of the theme park’s most iconic rides prepares to reopen after a major refresh. Nemesis will reopen this spring with a new name – Nemesis Reborn. Thirty years after its original opening in 1994, the popular attraction has undergone a full re-track and major overhaul to ensure it can continue entertaining thrillseekers for many years to come.

Now, in a striking animation released by Alton Towers, the new-look monster has been revealed. The animation shows shows a single, giant blazing red eye, ringed by razor-sharp teeth sitting at the centre of the creature’s head. Tentacles snake from its body, studded with the same, vicious teeth – huge, powerful claws extend from its muscular midsection as it propels itself on nimble, black legs.

An official opening date has yet to be confirmed for the ride, which is expected to open in the spring.

Nemesis was the first rollercoaster of its kind, where riders hang underneath the ride track instead of sitting on top of it, in Europe.

It closed in November 2022 to undergo a full retrack and refurbishment, with guests able to view the construction process throughout the resort’s 2023 season. Bianca Sammut, Divisional Director at Alton Towers Resort, said: “Nemesis is utterly cherished by generations of thrill-seekers. “As Europe’s first inverted rollercoaster, it occupies a special place in the heart for so many.

At Alton Towers Resort we’ve been working tirelessly to transform this iconic attraction and we’re delighted to give fans a first look at the terrifying creature that gives it its name. “This year fans will be able to experience the stand-out thrills of Nemesis Reborn for themselves. We’re keeping tight-lipped about the exact date of its return for now, but we can assure you… the wait will be worth it.”
