Mansfield knifeman admits slashing victim from behind in the street
A man from Nottinghamshire has admitted slashing a man on the face with a blade from behind. The 28-year-old victim was in Forest Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield, when he was attacked by Shaun Hill. He sustained a deep gash across his face after the knife was used on him at around 5.20pm on Wednesday, December 6.
Officers arrived at the scene soon afterwards and detained the 32-year-old defendant nearby and recovered the weapon. Hill, of Bamford Drive, Mansfield[1], pleaded guilty to wounding with intent and possessing a bladed article in public when he appeared over video-link from HMP Nottingham into Nottingham Crown Court today, Tuesday, January 16. Recorder David Allan remanded him into custody and adjourned the sentence, so that a pre-sentence report can be prepared, until March 8. Speaking at the time Hill was charged, Detective Inspector James Oakton, of Nottinghamshire Police[3], said: “This must’ve been an incredibly scary experience for the victim, who was left with a deep slash wound to his face. “Our officers detained a suspect shortly after arriving at the scene and we’re pleased to see they’ve now appeared in court after being charged with this serious assault.
We understand this was an isolated incident, so would like to provide some reassurance that we don’t believe there to be any wider risk to the public.”
In 2020, Hill was jailed for three years when he admitted carrying out what police described as a “terrifying” robbery[4] .
On that occasion he targeted a 63-year-old woman in Bancroft Lane, Mansfield, and used her bank cards to buy a takeaway.
