A184 Felling bypass crash: Pedestrian seriously hurt

Emergency services were alerted to the incident on the A184 Felling bypass in Gateshead[1] at 11.40am on Monday (February 13).

A man in his 40s, who suffered “life-threatening” injuries, was treated at the scene befgore being taken to hospital.

A Northumbria Police[2] spokesperson said: “At around 11.40pm yesterday (Monday), police received a report of a one-vehicle collision on the eastbound carriageway of the A184 Felling Bypass, close to the junction with William Street.

“For reasons yet to be established, it was reported that a silver Ford Transit Tipper van had collided with a pedestrian.

“Emergency services attended the scene and the pedestrian – a male aged in his 40s – was taken to hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

“He remains in hospital in a serious condition.”

The driver of the van remained at the scene to assist officers with their enquiries.

An investigation into the collision has been launched by Northumbria Police’s Roads Policing Unit, and the road has since reopened.

Officers are asking for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward, and members of the public are asked to check any dashcam footage and get in touch if they see anything which may assist the investigation.
