Police find driver asleep at the wheel on the M1

Nottinghamshire Police has shared bodycam footage of the moment an officer found a van driver asleep at the wheel on the M1.

Jamie Barrett, 30, narrowly missed other vehicles as he swerved his van across lanes between junctions 25 and 26 – before he finally came to a stop at a crash barrier.

Mr Barrett, from Market Rasen in Lincolnshire, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and driving over the legal alcohol limit.

He appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court 3 October and was given a six-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months.

He was also banned from driving for 12 months, ordered to carry out 180 hours of unpaid work and handed a £239 penalty.
