Driver seriously injured in two-car smash near Bottesford
A driver was seriously injured in a two-car crash in the north east of Leicestershire earlier today (Monday). A Mercedes SLK and a Honda Jazz collided on the A52 at Bottesford at about 10.20am this morning.
The Honda driver was rushed to hospital with serious injuries while the Mercedes driver suffered minor injuries. The road remained shut until about 3.30pm.
Leicestershire Police[1] are appealing for witnesses to the crash. A number of drivers stopped at the scene but Detective Sergeant Ed Des-Channelle, said other witnesses may have important information.
He said: “While a number of drivers did stop following the collision, I am still keen to speak to anyone else who may have witnessed what happened as we understand there were other motorists passing at the time.
“I’d be keen to speak to anyone who may witnessed the collision or saw the vehicles beforehand. Alternatively, if you have a dash cam in your vehicle which may have captured something related, please also get in touch.”
The crash happened on the A52 near to the junction with Belvoir Road. Police said the white Honda Jazz was travelling up Belvoir Road towards the junction while the white Mercedes was going along the A52 towards Grantham. There was a passenger in the Mercedes who was uninjured.
A long stretch of the A52 was closed between Saxondale, Nottinghamshire, and Grantham while the emergency services dealt with the incident. The road re-opened at about 3.30pm.
