Young man suffers life-threatening injuries after Devon crash

A young man is fighting for his life following a serious crash in Devon. Devon and Cornwall Police[1] have launched an appeal to identify the drivers of two others vehicles as they continue to investigate the collision on the A380 outside Plymouth yesterday – Tuesday, April 16.

The crash took place southbound at the on-slip at Ideford Coombe, near Kingsteignton, at around 9.10am. It involved a white Scania Tipper lorry, a white Toyota Dyna and a red Fiat 500.

The passenger of the Toyota, a 23-year-old man, was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the same vehicle, a 35-year-old man, sustained minor injuries while the drivers of the two other vehicles were not injured.

The road was closed for more than eight hours following the crash. A seperate closure of the A380 took place overnight for pre-planned roadworks.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: “Police are wishing to identify the drivers of two other vehicles, a silver 4×4 and a small red hatchback, which are believed to have been present at the time to assist with their enquiries.

“The passenger of the Toyota, a 23-year-old man, sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment. The driver of the same vehicle, a 35-year-old man was also taken to hospital with minor injuries. The drivers of the two other vehicles were not injured.

“The road was closed while an investigation was carried out at the scene. Officers from the Roads Policing Team would like to thank the public for their patience whilst the road was closed. It was passed to highways to reopen the road at around 5.40pm.
