A46 Newark diversion in full: Crash closes busy Nottinghamshire road for hours
Details of diversion routes have been issued to drivers after a crash closed a busy Nottinghamshire A road[1] for hours. The A46 near Newark [2]was closed in both directions between the A617 for the Cattlemarket Roundabout and the A1 near Winthorpe after a crash on Thursday, May 9.
According to the traffic monitoring site Inrix, the collision involved a lorry and two cars and caused a fuel spillage. Emergency services including Nottinghamshire Police[3] are in attendance and National Highways workers are also helping to clear the scene. The authority has now issued a full diversion for drivers amid long delays and congestion around Newark.
Motorists travelling northbound are advised to follow the below diversion route:
From the A46 Cattle Market roundabout, exit onto the A616 northbound.
At the mini roundabout in South Muskham, continue north on the B6325.
At the grade-separated junction with the A1, take the last exit and join the A1 southbound for 3.6km.
Exit the A1 at the Newark junction to re-join the A46.

Road users travelling southbound are advised to follow the below diversion route:
From the A46 Brownhills junction, exit onto the A1 northbound.
Take the exit slip road at the North Muskham junction, then take the first (B6325) exit off the roundabout and head south.
Continue over the mini-roundabout in South Muskham and onto the A616 to re-join the A46 at the Cattle Market roundabout.
Those travelling around close to the closure have been told to allow extra time for their journeys.
Update: All lanes reopened on the A46 as of about 4pm.
