A man was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drugs following a multi-vehicle A19[1] crash yesterday.

Cleveland Police[2] are appealing for anyone with dash cam footage of the collision on Tuesday, July 9 to contact them. Officers were called around 1.00pm to a four-vehicle collision on the A19 northbound Mandale interchange.

The collision involved four vehicles; a grey Mercedes, a red Kia, a Ford Transit Tipper and an Audi A4. Officers believe a fifth vehicle may have made off from the scene.

A woman and an 11-year-old girl travelling in the Mercedes were taken to hospital as a precaution. A 38-year-old man, driving the Ford Transit Tipper, was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drugs.

Anyone who may have dash cam footage of the incident is asked to contact Cleveland Police on 101, quoting reference number SE24129429. Footage can be uploaded here[3].

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance service said yesterday: “We were called to a six vehicle road traffic collision on the A19 close to Teesside Shopping Centre at 1pm this afternoon.

“We dispatched two double crewed ambulances, a clinical team leader and a duty officer. Four patients were treated and discharged at the scene and one patient was taken to North Tees Hospital.”
