Police investigating fatal M1 livestock truck crash after pedestrian’s death at junction 21

Police are investigating the death of a man who was fatally injured by a livestock truck on the M1. Leicestershire Police[1] was called to junction 21 on the motorway's southern carriageway following a crash[2] involving a pedestrian and a LGV, which was carrying horses, at around 5.34pm on Sunday, December 1. The force said the man involved was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, passengers and the horses in the vehicle were not injured.

The carriageway was closed between junction 22 and 21 to allow for a full examination of the scene on Sunday, but has since been reopened. Detectives[3] are now appealing for witnesses and dash cam footage of the incident, with officers explaining the LGV was a 'Rigid Daf' model. Detective Constable Louise Hough, from the force's serious collision investigation unit, said: "We would like to speak to anyone who may have seen the collision or pedestrian and the vehicle involved before the collision and has not as yet spoken to police[4]. "Alternatively, anyone who was travelling along the M1, close to junction 21, at the time of the collision, please check your dash cam - you may have captured footage that could be useful to the investigation." Police have asked anyone with information to contact them on 101 or online, quoting 24*715051

The crash shut the motorway for more than five hours, with the carriageway reopened at about 11.30pm on Sunday.
