2 people die in van and lorry tanker crash on the A17 in Lincolnshire

Two people have died in a lorry and van crash on the A17 in Lincolnshire. The collision - involving a white Ford Transit van and lorry tanker - happened between Brant Broughton and Leadenham just after 7am on Friday (January 10). The 68-year-old driver of the lorry and the 23-year-old driver of the van were both pronounced dead at the scene.

There were no other people in either of the vehicles, and no other vehicles are believed to have been involved. Their next of kin have been informed and will be supported by specially trained officers. The A17 was initially closed in both directions between the High Street, Brant Broughton[1], and Newark Road, Leadenham, due to the incident.

It is understood that the road closure is now between the Navenby turn off at Leadenham to the Brant Broughton turn off westbound, and on the eastbound carriageway the road is closed between Coddington and Leadenham. Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue crews remain at the scene to clear the debris.

Police remain at the scene carrying out their investigations. Lincolnshire Police said: "This is complex work and will take us some time, so the road is expected to be closed until early evening.

"Local diversions have been put in place by Highways, and we ask people to avoid the area. We are now investigating the circumstances of the collision, and we're asking anyone who witnessed the incident, or has dashcam and was in the area at the time, to check their footage." Officers are keen to view footage which shows either vehicle in the minutes before the collision.

It is understood that the white Ford Transit was travelling from the Sleaford direction, towards Newark along the A17, while the tanker was travelling from the Newark direction towards Sleaford.
