Nottinghamshire A1 live updates as road closed after crash involving tractor and van
A stretch of the A1 in Nottinghamshire[1] is closed following a crash involving a tractor and a van. The northbound carriageway is shut near Newark, between the B6326 and Lavender Way, this afternoon. The tractor involved in the crash overturned and ended up on its roof, causing a large amount of debris and oil to spread across the carriageway, according to National Highways. Traffic is queuing[2] due to the collision, which was first reported at 3.50pm this afternoon (Wednesday, March 5).
National Highways said in a statement on X: "The A1 is closed northbound between B6326 and A46 near Balderton due to a collision involving a tractor and van. More into follow." Traffic monitoring site Inrix said: "A1 Northbound blocked, queueing traffic due to obstruction on the road between the B6326 (Balderton / Claypole Turn Off, Fernwood) and Lavender Way (Coddington Turn Off, Newark).
Congestion to just after the Dry Doddington turn off and on the southback side back to the A46 Winthorpe Interchange. "Affecting traffic between Grantham and Newark." This is a breaking news story.
