HGV driver Joshua Jones died in A684 Bainbridge crash
Joshua Sebastian Jones, 30, originally from Richmond, died on March 21 in a crash on the A684 near the village of Bainbridge, Wensleydale. An inquest looking into the circumstances surrounding his death was opened at Northallerton Coroners' Court on Tuesday and heard the crash happened just after 6am. Assistant Coroner for North Yorkshire and York, Jonathan Leach, said Mr Jones lived in Catterick Garrison and was behind the wheel of a HGV when it collided with a stone bridge.
He said Mr Jones suffered 'significant injuries' in the crash and the truck toppled into the River Bain below. The inquest heard he was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was later identified by his mother. As previously reported, the bridge remained closed for several hours[1], with motorists urged to avoid the area and use alternative routes.

A force spokesperson said: "We can now confirm that the driver of the wagon involved in a collision in Bainbridge sadly died at the scene. "Just after 6am, the wagon he was driving collided with a bridge on the A684 in the village of Bainbridge in Wensleydale and came to rest in the river below. "Sadly, the 30-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene despite the efforts of paramedics and members of the public who came to his aid.
"We are appealing to anyone who was driving along the A684 and saw a blue Volvo tipper HGV travelling from Masham, then along the A684 towards Bainbridge or anyone who witnessed the collision, to get in touch. We're also appealing to anyone with dashcam footage or CCTV that covers the route to contact us." The force added: "Our thanks go to the members of the public who assisted at the scene of the collision.

The full inquest into Mr Jones' death was adjourned to a date yet to be fixed.
