Mansfield road closed for hours due to crash involving lorry
A main road through a Nottinghamshire town was closed for around three hours tonight after a crash involving a lorry. Ratcliffe Gate, in Mansfield, was cordoned off by police this evening (Thursday, April 3). Officers shut off the stretch of the A6191 from Newgate Lane to Broxtowe Drive.
The incident was first reported by traffic information service Inrix just before 6pm tonight and the road had reopened by 9.10pm tonight. While the closure was in place around 8pm, trafic in the area was coping well as the evening rush hour had passed. Pictures from the scene show a lorry with a number of Nottinghamshire Police[1] vehicles surrounding it, with a cordon set up around the scene ensuring that traffic does not pass the accident.
A local councillor for Mansfield[2] South, Stephen Garner, reported that the road closure was also affecting the Ratcliffe Gate junction near to the King's Arms pub.
He also stated that Rock Hill had been blocked off at the Carter Lane crossroads.
