Dramatic footage shows driver on wrong side of dual carriageway during Nottingham pursuit

Dramatic dashcam footage shows a van being driven "erratically" through two Nottingham suburbs during a police[1] pursuit. A van was spotted by officers with its lights off in the early hours of Thursday, June 26, and was pulled over. The driver drove away shortly after officers got out of their car to speak to him In Wigman Road, Bilborough[2].

A six-minute pursuit followed in the area, also moving to Basford[3]. In an attempt to escape officers, the driver did a lap around a set of garages, swerved across the road and even went the wrong way around a roundabout. The driver is also seen running a red light in the footage released by the police, before turning right onto the A6514 Western Boulevard.

The vehicle was damaged at this point and was seen travelling[4] about 600 metres along the wrong side of the empty dual carriageway. Sparks were flying everywhere as the van was left running on its rims before the driver turned off Western Boulevard. He then abandoned the vehicle and tried to flee the scene.

A 34-year-old man was arrested[5] on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop.

A bag of cocaine was found in the vehicle. As a result, he was additionally arrested on suspicion of drug-driving and possessing Class A drugs. Inspector Chris Chell, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "As I've said, thankfully because it was in the early hours of the morning, the roads weren't busy, otherwise this could've led to a very serious accident.

"By trailing the van from a safe distance, the officers in pursuit ensured this didn't happen and arrested a suspect soon afterwards, so they deserve a lot of credit for their efforts."
