Nottinghamshire A1 service station crash closed part of road for nearly 12 hours

A man has been arrested and taken to hospital after a collision at a Nottinghamshire service station which closed part of the A1 for nearly 12 hours. Nottinghamshire Police[1] says its officers attended the Welcome Break Services just off the A1 Northbound[2] near Fernwood, Newark,[3] at around 11.30pm on Tuesday (July 15). A pick-up truck had collided with a tree and a 40-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop and theft of a motor vehicle.

The man was taken to hospital with injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening. The exit slip road taking motorists to Balderton and Claypole was shut for nearly 12 hours,[4] reopening at around 9.20am on Wednesday. Although Nottinghamshire Police attended the scene, the force says South Yorkshire Police[5] is now investigating the incident.

The Welcome Break Services near Fernwood opened in 2023 and features a Starbucks drive-through, Burger King drive-through, Pret, Greggs and Budgens.

South Yorkshire Police has also been contacted for comment.
