Police chase sees BMW 1 series crash through wall into Coventry’s Dunlop sports club car park

A BMW 1 series crashed through a concrete wall into a Coventry[1] sports club car park. It followed a Warwickshire Police[2] chase which first started at junction 3 of the M6[3] last night (July 21). Warwickshire Police Operational Patrol Unit (OPU) said that the car, which was on false number plates, was believed to have been involved in a commercial burglary in the Leicestershire force area.

OPU officers intercepted the BMW but then it sped off. It led to a chase into into Coventry, with officers saying it 'exceeded the speed limit and drove dangerously.' The team explained: "The vehicle crashed and decamped after going through a concrete wall into the Dunlop sports and social club car park."

The suspects inside the car made off on foot - but one was found - hiding in a bush.

It was a police dog that found the man, who has not been identified. "With the assistance of a drone team from Leicestershire police and Warwickshire[6] police, dog Ziva and her handler PC Wright, they located a Suspect hiding in a bush, whereby he was arrested for burglary and going equipped. He was transferred to Leicestershire police," the OPU team explained.

The driver remains on the run but the police team have warned: "In regards to the driver thankyou for leaving your DNA all over the airbag we will be in touch in due course."
