Tributes paid to ‘one of a kind’ Ayrshire dad who died in A77 lorry crash

Tributes have been paid to an Ayrshire dad who died following a tipper lorry crash.[1] John McKinstry was killed in a single-vehicle crash on the A77 near Monkton at around 1.35pm on Monday (August 11). Emergency services[2] rushed to the scene but the 41-year-old was tragically pronounced dead. His devastated family and friends have since taken to social media to remember the "one of a kind" dad-of-two, reports the Record.[3] John's partner Lindsay Dwyer wrote: "Aw John I honestly think I will love you forever.

This hurts so much more, you definitely were one of the good ones and deserve to be remembered. "Please keep us safe from up there like you did here, and I'll keep your two babies safe now. We will miss and love you for the rest of our lives John, we are absolutely heartbroken."

A cousin who lives in the US shared: "Today we lost my favourite, wildest, most fun cousin! I wish me and my nana could hop a plane right now to go be with our family.

"Our next trips to Scotland will be a little less wild without him. But Heaven gained a heck of a guy!

We love you John McKinstry, everyone please keep his wife and kids in your prayers." Other family and friends left their own heartfelt messages in the comments. One said: "Sending you loads of love Lindsay.

He was definitely one of a kind and is a massive privilege knowing him. "Thinking of you and your wee family. Rest easy John."

A second wrote: "My heart goes out to you and the family, he was a lovable rogue. Sending love and strength to you all." Another commented: "Heart is breaking for you all, he was such a big character with a fun-loving personality, it's always the good ones!

My thoughts are with you all." A fourth added: "John was such a good guy, one of a kind and there will never be another like him. We're here for you no matter what and we'll get you and the family through this tough time together."

Police have since launched an investigation into the incident, and are appealing for any witnesses or drivers with dashcam footage to come forward. The road was closed for nearly seven hours to allow crash investigators to carry out work, and fully reopened at around 8.30pm on Monday. Sergeant Martin Cunningham, of the Road Policing Unit in Glasgow, said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died.

Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances. I would urge anyone with information who hasn't yet spoken to us to get in touch. "We would also be keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam footage from the area.

Anyone who can help is asked to call 101, quoting reference 1548 of 11 August, 2025."
