Picture shows aftermath of devastating Notts fire as cause revealed

Nottinghamshire Police[1] has released dramatic images after a devastating fire near a main road. The fire service[2] and police[3] were called to a compound off the A631 between Beckingham and Gainsborough[4] at around 9.30am on Wednesday (September 17). At the scene, crews found a Vauxhall Corsa[5] and a caravan engulfed in flames - and the fire spread to a nearby outbuilding. Road closures[6] were put in place while the fire was put out and no injuries were reported. A joint police and fire investigation found the blaze was likely to have been started deliberately.

Nottinghamshire Police has now launched an appeal to trace anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have seen something suspicious to get in touch. Detective Constable Chloe Baugh, who is leading the investigation, said: "As this image shows, the fire caused a substantial amount of damage. The incident is being treated as suspicious and we are appealing for anyone with any information to contact us.

"Lighting any fire is extremely reckless and has the potential to result in devastating consequences, so it's really important that anyone with information that could assist our inquiries comes forward."
