A1 closed for hours as overturned lorry shut main road near Newark

Part of the A1 close to the Nottinghamshire - Lincolnshire border was shut for several hours due to a crash which has saw a lorry overturn. The main road was closed northbound between the B1174 for Grantham and the B6326 for Newark-On-Trent due to the collision, which was first reported by National Highways just before 2am this morning (Saturday, November 15). In that update posted on X earlier in the morning, a spokesperson for Highways East Midlands[1] said: "Emergency Services and National Highways Traffic Officers are making to scene, thank you for your patience."
In a further update just before 5.25am this morning, the spokesperson for Highways added: "Recovery is in the process of taking place." A diversion route was in place for affected motorists[2] as the closure continued until just before midday. The road has now reopened following overnight and early morning accident recovery work on Saturday, November 15.
