Investigation ongoing into death of 21-year-old who died on M56

Niall Fawcett was 'changing the tyre of a lorry' on junction 7 of the M56 eastbound near Knutsford on August 2 last year, a coroner's court heard. The mobile tyre fitter, of Talke, Stoke-on-Trent, was impacted after the front tractor unit on the lorry fell onto him during the tyre change on the hard shoulder of the motorway. Mr Fawcett was 'brought out from under the lorry' and CPR was conducted by Cheshire Police officers.
Sadly the 21-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. An inquest into his death was opened at Cheshire Coroner's Court on August 21 last year due to the 'unnatural' cause of death. The inquest has been suspended, during a hearing at the coroner's court last Wednesday, due to an ongoing investigation being conducted by HSE into Mr Fawcett's death.
Fatalities listed on the HSE website cited the cause of the incident as 'the deceased was trapped by something collapsing or overturning'.
Senior coroner of Cheshire, Jacqueline Devonish, accepted the application for the inquest to be suspended for a further six months, pending the HSE investigation.
A review of the inquest is set to take place on August 26.
