Young girl and man in 30s die after horror crash involving pony and tipper truck

A young girl and man in his 30s has died after a horror crash involving a tipper truck and a pony on a busy road.

The tragic collision took place in East Peckham near Tonbridge[1] on Wednesday, April 1 on the A228 Boyle Way , between the junctions of Branbridges Road and Hale Street.

According to police[2], a white DAF tipper truck was being driven on the southbound carriageway when it was involved in a collision with a pony and trap travelling in the same direction - the pony died at the scene after the crash.. Advertisement Advertisement

Patrols, South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Fire and Rescue Service[3] attended and a man in his 30s, who was in the trap, was confirmed dead at the scene.

A woman and young girl who had also been riding in the trap were taken hospital. The young girl was confirmed deceased at hospital and the woman remains in a critical condition.

The driver of the tipper, a 29-year-old man from Kent, was arrested in connection with the incident and was taken into custody.

Police are now appealing for more information and any dashcam footage as they try to piece together exactly what happened.

A spokesperson for Kent Police said: :An investigation into the circumstances is underway and witnesses or anyone who saw the truck or pony and trap prior to the collision, is urged to contact the appeal line.
