A53 crash victim dies in Royal Stoke

A man has died in hospital after a collision between a car and a tipper truck on the A53. Police and paramedics had been sent to the scene in Flash where the driver of the car, a man in his 80s, was found with 'serious injuries'.

As reported by The Sentinel[1] and following the crash, which occurred around 9.20am on Sunday, June 7 near Brown Lane, he was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital. Today Staffordshire Police say that sadly he passed away in hospital last night.

Officers have issued an appeal for witnesses as an investigation into the crash continues.

A spokeswoman said: "We are appealing for information after a man sadly died in hospital following a collision on the A53.

We were called to the A53 at Flash, after a car and a tipper truck were involved in the collision, near the turning for Brown Lane. Officers attended along with colleagues from West Midlands Ambulance Service. One of the drivers, a man in his 80s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

He sadly died in hospital last night (June 9).

Specialist officers are supporting his family at this difficult time.

Our inquiries are continuing into the circumstances of the collision and the other driver remained at the scene to assist officers."

Witnesses should call 101 and quote incident 242 of June 7.
